Where Have I Been?

If you have had the unfortunate circumstance to have the thought of little old me wander into your cerebellum lately, then I am truly sorry, and you can navigate away from this page immediately. However, if that thought wandered into your brain and you proceeded to wonder what I have been up to then you are in a great deal of luck my friend.

Time has been flying by lately. Sometimes I take a moment to look up at the time flying along and give it a heartfelt wave because lately I have been doing a lot of looking forward and a little bit of nothing. Since my adventures of, "Summer Misc.", I haven't had the blog-worthy times that we all know I am capable of. A lot of teaching, some partying, and really becoming comfortable in this country has been a one sentence summary of my life these past two months.

I am not going to kid myself and assume that you want to read about me going out and getting blasted in Korea. Well, some of you do, but those brave few are what I call my "true friends" and they get phone calls about my drunken adventures. For the rest of you I have to come up with something we English Majors call substance. Never look further than Club Night for a month's dose of substance.

On the last Friday of every month Club Night rules a not so quaint and not so sanitary are of Seoul called Hongdae. This is where the bulk of Seoul's nightclubs are located and a favorite for those of us who have the strength and fortitude to brave the face that a trip to Hongdae means you will not be home until 7am. The perk of Club Night is 15 bucks gets you into every club and a couple drinks to get you started. Even better is the face that you don't need to buy expensive club drinks, the 7-11 is conveniently located at the hub of all Hongdae clubs, and you can buy a giant cocktail in a bag from the street vendors. Club Night rocks.

Koreans love brave people. If you have the courage to jump on stage and dance like a madman then they love you even more. I love courage as well, liquid courage, so Koreans tend to love me.
I tried out my first Club Night in September. It was a proper introduction and preparation for Club Night #2...Halloween.

I am notoriously lazy when it comes to dressing up for Halloween. Last minute I came up with what turned out to be a gold mine, Mr. Korea. Wearing my Korean national soccer team fan shirt along with an absurd Korea beanie and a large Korean flag as a cape made made me a hero. My dancing prowess of the night and full dose of liquid courage made me a god. I don't know what happened to me. Granted, I rocked High School dances, I rocked Zane Jr. High dances, I even had a knack for rocking the bars in Madison once in a while. On Halloween I had my moment, I was Tommy Moe on the slopes of Lilli hammer, I was Deep Blue Something singing Breakfast at Tiffany's, I was Jean Van de Velde before the 18th, I was Mark Fidrych in 76', I had my night, I was a one-hit wonder. There was a group of Korean girls screaming at my feet. I pulled one on stage and her friends went wild, she loved me, the crowd was loving me, I was loving myself, people were trying to touch my hands, and it was AWESOME.

I am headed to Thailand on Nov.29 for one week of paradise. So be ready for more.
